London, 10/02/2002 ... The event also provided fresh evidence of the astonishing value currently offered by South Africa. Until now I have favoured its whites over its reds, but if the elegant Hawequas, Mont du Toit 2000 (8,50 pound, Corney & Barrow, as before) is a taste of things to come, I might revise my opinion. This wonderfully glossy wine combines an impressive structure with rich , concentrated flavours, and is made from a blend that includes three grape varieties used to make claret , but rarely with the same success - certainly not at this price.
